Centre for Automotive Research

The Centre for Automotive Research (CAR) was officially established as a research centre within the Faculty of Engineering and the Built Environment, UKM in February 2009. The conception of CAR was actually first mooted in 2007, with a view of synergising existing research in automotive engineering. Since 2002, research on vehicle dynamics and on internal combustion engines (ICE) have been carried out by members of the Faculty, who now work collectively within CAR. Areas of study include vehicle safety; vehicle noise, vibration and harshness (NVH); tyre dynamics; vehicle ergonomics; aerodynamic stability of vehicles; automotive engine design; fatigue of vehicle components; and automotive applications of the auxedir honeycomb structure. These researches have been funded by various sources, including UKM’s internal research grant, the Ministry of Science, Technology and Innovation (MOSTI), the Ministry of Higher Education (MOHE), DRB-HICOM Berhad, among others. Research at CAR also involves active collaboration with other academic institutions such as UPM, UM, UTP, UTM and UiTM as well as with Proton, SIRIM, Motorola, STRIDE and others from industry.
