Dean’s message

Welcome to the Faculty of Pharmacy, Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia. We have been offering a four-year pharmacy programme since 1995 under the Department of Pharmacy, Faculty of Allied Health Sciences. In June 2008, we become a faculty with a new vigour and vision to be recognized globally as the preferred faculty and pacesetter in pharmacy education, scholarly research and service to the profession and society. The Faculty is committed to produce graduates who are well versed in pharmaceutical sciences, competent, competitive, confident and be able to work effectively in various areas of pharmacy practice. The faculty plays a very important role in pharmacy education in Malaysia through ensuring our graduates are able to provide high quality healthcare.

As a research faculty, the Faculty of Pharmacy is the right choice to pursue a research career. We have competent lecturers who can provide excellent supervision to help students in their quest for new knowledge. We offer various areas of research in pharmaceutical sciences ranging from drug discovery & development, drug synthesis, drug action and mechanism of drug action, drug formulation & delivery and pharmacy practice. The faculty also offers a 12-month Master of Clinical Pharmacy (MClinPharm) programme by course work. We are confident that graduates of our postgraduate programmes by the full time research mode are professionals who are critical, analytical and be able to conduct quality research independently. Our MClinPharm graduates possess the necessary clinical skills to provide excellent pharmaceutical care and also to be life-long learners.

The faculty soon plans to offer more postgraduate programmes by coursework in various disciplines in pharmacy and by 2015 the targeted ratio of undergraduate and postgraduate students to be 1:1. To ensure that our academic and research activities are recognized globally, the faculty has established strong academic and research collaboration with recognized pharmacy schools locally and internationally.

I am confident that the Faculty of Pharmacy will progress with strong commitment from every member of the faculty and continued support from the graduates of this faculty.

Prof. Dr. Ibrahim Jantan
