UKM launches Merdeka Month 2011 |
| UKM began a month of celebrations to mark the nation's 54th Independence anniversary by raising the Jalur Gemilang at the Chancellory Building Foyer. At the occasion, Vice-Chancellor Prof Tan Sri Dato' Wira Dr Sharifah Hapsah Syed Hasan Shahabudin also handed over the national flag to the representatives of seven university organisations -- faculties, institutes, services, students, the Reserve Officers Training Unit (PALAPES), Police Volunteers (SUKSIS) and colleges. |

| UKM Chancellor's Foundation is to launch a number of financial products based on investment principles, wakaf (alms), takaful (Islamic insurance), wills and philanthropy that will carry tax exemptions and be based on charity. With the tagline Noble Practices: Our Culture, the target to collect RM100 million during the two year period through the UKM Wakaf Fund, said Deputy Vice Chancellor (Industry and Community Partnerships) Prof Dr Saran Kaur Gill. |

Professorial Inaugural Lecture on Widening Exploration Enriching Treasure |
| A study by a UKM researcher to assess the level of satisfaction in married and family life found about 20 percent of the respondents were not satisfied with the quality of their marriages. In fact he found 25 per cent of couples married for between 12 and17 years from among the1,200 respondents who said they were not satisfied with their marriages. |

UKM Electrical Charge Detector Won Innovation Award |
| A UKM entry won second place in the Ministry of Higher Education (MOHE) Innovation Award for its innovation of a device that can detect electrical charge. The entry from Universiti Pendidikan Sultan Idris was judged the winner for its entry on the innovation of Online Interview Score Sheet (OISS) while the 3rd place went to Politeknik Kota Baharu for its online course participants information system (CAKUR). |

One of the World's Most High Tech Operating Theatre launched at UKMMC |
| UKM Medical centre (UKMMC) has launched its OR1, the integrated high definition operating theatre, a facility for key hole surgery or advanced laparoscopic procedure that allows for minimal invasive surgery. It comes equipped with a time out and checklist system making it the first high tech operating theatre in the country which also comes with improved safety features, one of the first in the world. |
