Background
Following the success of the 2009 International Conference on Space Science & Communication (IconSpace2009), the Institute of Space Science (ANGKASA), Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia (The National University of Malaysia, UKM) is proud to extend her promotion of research and education in the field of space science, technology and governance by this international conference. The 2011 International Conference on Space Science & Communication (IconSpace2011) with a theme "Towards Exploring The Equatorial Phenomena" will be the second in the series of conferences organized by ANGKASA and technically co-sponsored by IEEE through IEEE Malaysia Communication - Vehicular Technology Society Chapter. This conference will be promoted as a biennial event. It aims to bring together researchers in the fields of space science and communication technology to present their research findings as well as create opportunities for more research collaborations. Therefore, we cordially invite academicians, scientists, engineers and students from academia, industry and government to participate in this conference. This conference will also involve the cooperation of the Universiti Tun Hussein Onn Malaysia (UTHM), National Space Agency of Malaysia and Astronautic Technology (M) Sdn Bhd (ATSB®).
Institute of Space Science (ANGKASA)
The institute was established on 1 August 2003 with a vision to lead research in space science and technology by joining international space research activities. It has roles to develop capacity and research on space science and technology for peaceful applications, promote their importance for national development and support the national space programs. The institute currently involves 24 researchers in the related fields and has collaborations with the following local university: Universiti Tun Hussein Onn Malaysia (UTHM), Universiti Malaysia Sarawak (UNIMAS), Universiti Malaysia Sabah (UMS), and international bodies: Antarctica New Zealand (ANZ), University of Canterbury New Zealand, National Institute of Polar Research (NIPR) Japan, Science Institute University of Iceland (SIUI) and Space Environment Research Center (SERC), University of Kyushu Japan.
