ABSTRACT
The occurrence of gold and its relationship to the associated elements for Penjom gold mine in the Central Belt and Lubuk Mandi gold mine in the Eastern Belt has been studied. Forty one samples from Penjom and thirty samples from Lubuk Mandi, consisting of vein-quartz, intrusives, wall rocks and ore samples were analysed by atomic absorption spectroscopy (AAS), and the geochemical data obtained were analysed statistically for the elemental relationships. Polished sections of some ore samples were studied under an ore microscope and an electron probe microanalyser (EPMA) to augment the geochemical data. Based on the statistical analyses, gold (Au) in Penjom has a positive correlationship with Cu-Ag-Pb and a negative correlationship with Zn-As. In Lubuk Mandi, Au has a positive correlationship with Cu and a negative correlationships with Ag-Pb-As. Based on the elemental relationships, the Penjom gold deposit can be classified as an Au-Cu-Ag-Pb deposit while the Lubuk Mandi gold deposit as a Au-Cu deposit.
