At the Faculty of Engineering & Built Environment UKM, activities related to research, innovation and industrial relation are managed by a centre of excellence known as the Advanced Engineering Centre (AEC). This centre was officially established on 1st February 2001 and operates based on the following terms:
- To raise the UKM image and reputation as a frontier Institute of Higher Learning in research.
- To become a Centre of Excellence that become a nucleus for all research activities in the Faculty.
- To provide links between lectures and industries so that research products and their specialities can be utilised by the industry in order to increase the productivity and to produce better products in terms of design, materials and quality.
- To be a centre of gathering, mobilising, optimising resources of expertise and engineering specialities in UKM.
- To be a national reference for engineering research.
