Abstract

Activities of Po-210, Pb-210 and Ra-226 in sediment around the Sabah water at Teluk Brunei, Sipitang, Teluk Kimanis, Kota Kinabalu and Kuala Penyu have been determined. Its distribution was inconsistent and liable changing according to the sampling sites. The activity pattern showed by these radionuclides was Po> Pb> Ra. Whereas, the range of activity for Po-210, Pb-210 and Ra-226 were 0.413 dpm/g to 8.491 dpm/g, 0.023 dpm/g to 2.767 dpm/g and 0.704 dpm/g to 1.619 dpm/g, respectively. Activities of Po-210 were decrease with increasing sediment depth. Then, the activity of Po-210 will slowly reach equal to Pb-210 by depth. The chemical and biological processes in water column and sediments were the major factors that control these radionuclides at the study area.
