Abstract

Studies on the electrooxidation of ethanol using solid electrode (Ni, Cu, Co, Pt and Ir) in KOH as supporting electrolyte were performed to determine a few kinetic parameters like Tafel slope (b), reaction rate constant (a) and exchange current density (i0) using linear potential (V) method. Value of several kinetic parameters for every elements (electrodes) were determined using a graph plots between log io   vs potential. Referring to i0  value in 0.1 M KOH the electrocatalitic capability sequences obtained were Co > Cu > Ir > Ni at lower potential and Ir > Ni > Co > Cu > Pt at higher potential, while in 1.0 M KOH its sequences were Co >  Ni >  Cu >  Ir   and Ni >  Co >  Ir >  Cu >  Pt and lower and at higher potential respectively.
