SYNTHESIS, STRUCTURAL CHARACTERIZATION AND TOXICITY
STUDIES OF NOVEL ORGANOTIN(IV) COMPLEXES DERIVED FROM BENZOYLACETONE
ISONICOTINYLHYDRAZONE (H2BAS): X-RAY CRYSTAL STRUCTURE OF [Me2Sn(BAS)]

Abstract
Six organotin(IV) complexes, [RmSnCl2-m(BAS)],
where Rm = Me2 (2), nBu2 (3), Ph2
(4), Me (5), nBu (6) and Ph (7) have been synthesized by direct reaction of organotin(IV)
halide(s) with benzoylacetone isonicotinylhydrazone ligand [(H2BAS),
(1)] with the presence of KOH in
1:2:1 (ligand:base:metal) mole ratio in absolute methanol. The hydrazone ligand
[(H2BAS), (1)] and its
organotin(IV) complexes (2-7) have been characterized by elemental
analyses, UV-Visible, IR and 1H NMR spectral studies. All
organotin(IV) complexes (2-7) are non electrolytic in nature.
Among them, molecular structure of dimethyltin(IV) complex, [Me2Sn(BAS)]
(2) has also been studied by X-ray
single crystal diffraction. Preliminary toxicity test showed that the
organotin(IV) complexes (2-7)
are more toxic against the Artemia
salina than the free hydrazone ligand [(H2BAS), (1)].
