Palm Oil to Feature Prominently in World Food Science symposium

BANGI, 20  August  2010 – The versatility, health and functionality of palm oil will be widely discussed at an influential international congress on food science and technology in South Africa next week. 

The 15th World Congress on Food Science and Technology to be held in Cape Town from 22nd to 26th August 2010 is organized by the International Union of Food Science and Technology (IUFoST). 

“What is remarkable is how the Malaysian Palm Oil Council is able to get the IUFoST to devote half a day of the symposium to palm oil and getting international experts to talk about the nutritional value of the commodity,” said Dr Liew Siew Ling, a lecturer and scientist of Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia (UKM). 

Dr Liew, from the School of Chemical Sciences and Food Technology, will put up a poster on probiotics at the symposium.       

The Malaysian Palm Oil Council, in a note to the delegates, said its specialised symposium on the versatility, health and functionality of palm oil will feature experts in their respective fields. 

These experts will enlighten delegates on the unique characteristics of palm oil and its applications in foods.  
 
Among others,  the presentations will cover areas like:- 

» Trans free solutions incorporating Palm and Palm fractions

» Current status and nutritional attributes of Palm oil

» Palm bioactive ingredients for the nutraceutical and cosmoceutical applications

» The future of palm oil/olein in frying and baking.
