BANGI, 14 Feb. 2012 – The National University of Malaysia (UKM) AIESEC organisation brought in 592 youths aged 18 to 25 from Asia to get to know their ways of life and cultures in a “Global Village” meet and seminar at the campus here for a week ending this Friday.
The MyLDS 2012 (Malaysia Leadership Development) Seminar, which forms part of the event has participants from China, Egypt, Hong Kong, Indonesia, Iran, Iraq, Japan, Mauritius, the Philippines, Singapore, Taiwan, Yemen and Malaysia.
Malaysian participants were drawn from Universiti Malaya (UM), Universiti Putra Malaysia (UPM), Universiti Sains Malaysia (USM), Universiti Utara Malaysia (UUM), Universiti Teknologi Malaysia (UTM), Universiti Malaysia Pahang (UMP), The University of Nottingham Malaysia Campus, University Taylor, Petronas Technology University (UTP) and UKM.
One of the crucial special events featured in the seminar was the concept of the Global Village where participants from different countries are housed under one roof. This had enabled the impart of cross cultural understanding among the participating youths thus enabling them to learn at first hand their cultural differences in an interactive way.
Each university was also given the task to feature a country to provide information on places of interest and the national food and drinks of that country.
This required the youths to liaise with the embassies of the countries concerned for information and thus allowing them to learn and communicate with outside institutions.
The “Global village” event was launched by Deputy Vice Chancellor (Students and Alumni Affairs) UKM, Prof Ir Dr Othman A. Karim on Tuesday Feb 14.
