CHAIRPERSON'S WELCOME NOTE

Dear Students,

Welcome to the School of Language Studies and Linguistics (SoLLs). I am happy that you have chosen the School as your second home. My colleagues and I hope that your study here will be as enriching for you as it is for us.

I still remember fondly my student days. The long walks to class, the never-ending reading materials, the non-negotiable deadlines. All seemed insurmountable at the time. But I remember too the friendships I formed with fellow students and teachers. The lessons learnt along the way. It's up to you to make the best of your student life. UKM offers many facilities and activities to make your life here as fruitful as possible. Here, at SoLLs, we have dedicated lecturers who take great pride in their work and go to great lengths to ensure that you receive an education that is on par with anywhere in the world.

Of course, problems may arise. After all, what man and woman propose, God may dispose. Having been in your shoes once, I know the kinds of problems young, or not-so-young students may encounter. Should you have problems, come and see either your lecturer(s), the Head of Programme, or me. I am sure one of us can help. If we can't, we will recommend you of someone who can. Don't allow problems to crowd your head and get in the way of your studies. I wish you all the best in your studies. As Alexander Pope once said, "Drink deep, or taste not the Peruvian spring."
