Universiti Kebangsaan has established a Research Centre at Fraser’s Hill since 1990, following land acquisition from the Pahang State Government in the eighties. The Centre consists of a laboratory for specimen sorting and equipment storage, toilets and a 2-hectare campsite. It has access to a study area covering 45 hectares of  pristine virgin montane forests. The forest covers riparian fringes, stream valleys and mountain ridges and provides diversed habitats for its rich fauna and flora.

 

The Research Centre at Fraser’s Hill, is located in the state of Pahang, between 3°40.6’N and 3°40’N and 101°42’E and 101°47’E. It is close to the waterfalls and the Golf Course near Jeriau. It is established on a plateau at about  950 m and close to lower montane forest that covers distant hills up to 1200m The forest soil is acidic, overlying granitic soils. The area receives 20mm to 410mm of rainfall each month, typically low during the first quarter, and very high during the last quarter of the year. The temperature is cool, ranging from 18o -22o C throughout the year, with high humidity, ranging from 85-95% every month.

It is about 5 km (15 minute drive) from the Fraser’s Hill town center or about  70km  (90 min. drive) from Kuala Lumpur.
