POLICY AND RULES
All services of the Publishing and Printing Centre are bound to the main activity of the university, encompassing teaching and learning, researches, lectures, publishing, administration, student affairs, national culture and religion (Islam).
Role
- To function as a publishing department that publishes and prints materials for the academic publishing and other publishing needs of other universities.
- To plan and establish the publishing and printing policy of the university.
- To function as an electronic/multimedia publishing facilities centre.
- To enhance the concepts of publishing and production into other forms than conventional form in existence by utilising the information technology with more commitment.
- To produce academic and university publications in conventional and digital forms such as:
a. Books, monographs, offset printed journals;
b. Books, monographs, online digital technology printed journals;
c. Electronic / website online journal production
d. Malaysiana scientific materials collection digital documentation;
e. University Research Report digital documentation;
f. To be the pioneer in building the digital Malay corpus collection.
g. To publish thesis in the digital form.
- To produce new products encompassing teaching and learning materials and publishing of lecture materials in the Web.
- To provide educational technology equipment services for teaching and learning purposes and other UKM matters such as
a. Video conferencing
b. Lecture materials on the website
c. Utilising digital technology in delivering lectures.
- Its role and function as UKM Publisher to publish books, monographs and university academic journals will be retained as in the existing rules.
- To function as the secretariat for the three committees as follows:
a. The University Editorial Board that decides on policy of university academic publishing and the publishing of academic works through the UKM Publisher will continue with the existing rules;
b. The Publishing (and Printing) Committee will be the publishing and other publishing products coordinating body. (New rules pertaining to the Publishing Committee will be established.)
- To conduct training for academic personnel on producing teaching and learning materials including training in writing and publishing fields, particularly for multimedia publishing.
