Here is a brief summary of some recent archaeological research carried out by Malaysian archaeologists:
Gua Angin, Kota Gelanggi Complex, Pahang
Kamaruzaman and Zulkifli together with their archaeological teams conducted an excavation at new site call Gua Angin (literally - Air Cave). The excavation was carry out from 1 to 30 March 1997. The site near the Kota Tongkat and Kota Balai.
Consultation Work
Prof. Dato' Dr. Nik Hassan Shuhaimi Nik Abd. Rahman has been engaging in archaeological consultantcy work for the Petronas Gas Utility. Archaeological survey was carried out in Malacca, Negeri Sembilan and Terengganu.
Maritime Archaeology
Nik also involved in a project explored by a private company, in
conjuction with Oxford
University. Excavation will take place on the Dutch ship Nassau,
which sank in 1606 near Port Dickson (Note

).
Kelumpang Island, Perak
I, myself, is currently working on analyzing the archaeological remains from this late prehistoric site.
Bernam Site, Selangor
Assoc. Prof. Mrs. Leong Sau Heng is still carrying our her excavation at this slab grave site, with a significant amount of work still to be done. Her early findings were presented at the Paris conference last year.
Sungai Mas, Kedah
Kamaruddin Zakaria and his team continue their excavation and
research at his proto-historic site.
They are in the process of analyzing many artifacts excavated
from the site.
East Sabah, Sabah
Survey was carried out by Prof. Dr. Zuraina Majid at several sites, mostly dates to the Palaeolithic period.
Gunong Senyum, Pahang
Excavations at this site were begun in August 1995 by Zulkifli Jaafar from National Museum and continue through November. This site has been dated to the Hoabinhian and Neolithic periods.
Johor Lama, Johore
Kamaruddin Abd. Razak from Johore Heritage Foundation started a survey at the site, which will be subsequently followed by excavation. A multi-diciplinary approach will be applied, including the use of GIS, Remote Sensing and Geophysics.
