Geology is a field of science that studies the origin, compositions, development and changes of the earth’s system through time. The geological research approach is based on geological history and interpretation. The geological study encompasses the aspects of lithosphere, hydrosphere, atmosphere and biosphere of the earth. Geology uses many principles, laws and other field of sciences such as physics, chemistry, mathematics and biology. It’s research approach is more holistic in nature and it can be pure or applied. The development in the field of geology is in line with the development of industry. It plays important role in exploration of earth’s resources such as petroleum, gases, ore deposits, industrial minerals, and other energy resources. In the new millennium , geology will play important roles in environmental conservation, natural resource management, geotechnical and engineering aspects and earth’s resource prospecting. Geologist can serve in exploration sectors especially in prospecting for natual gas, ore minerals and industrial minerals. In a development sector, geologists are needed in the field of engineering geology and geotechniques. Geologists are also required in environment conservation and hydrogeology sectors.
