Faculty of Economics and Business, Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia is organizing for the fourth consecutive time, the International Management Accounting Conference (IMAC) in Kuala Lumpur. IMAC IV is an extension of IMAC I, IMAC II and IMAC III which were held in 1995, 1998 and 2004 respectively. Academicians and practitioners from Asia, Australia, United States and Europe presented their work in various areas at the conference.

The first International Management Accounting Conference was held in Kuala Lumpur with the theme ‘Accounting and the Management of Organisations’. The main speakers were from Sweden, Australia, U.K., USA, ASEAN countries and the host country, Malaysia. The conference received more than 200 participants from all over the world. The proceedings were published in three volumes. The success of the first conference paved the way for the second conference.

The second conference in 1998 was jointly hosted by the Faculty of Business Management of the Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia and the Malaysian Institute of Accountants. IMAC II was held at a prestigious hotel in Kuala Lumpur with the theme ‘Organisational Challenges into the New Millennium’. Over forty papers were presented by participants from various countries encompassing academicians and practitioners. The conference scored a first as a blend of an academic conference with a professional flavor. The successful conclusion of the conference contributed towards bridging the gap between academia and the profession. The keynote speakers were Professor Falconer Mitchell and Dr. Rajiv D. Banker.

Third conference was held at Equatorial Hotel, Bandar Baru Bangi, Selangor. The theme chosen for IMAC III, ‘Accounting to Meet Challenges in Globalization’, was appropriate with the development of international trade. The globalisation challenges faced by business organization have great impact on the direction, characteristics and practices of management accounting. The conference was also attended by five invited keynote speakers which include Professor Trevor Hopper from Manchester University, U.K., Professor Kenneth A. Merchant from University of Southern California, U.S.A., Associate Professor Joan Luft from Michigan State University, Professor Yasuhiro Monden from University of Tsukuba, Japan, and Professor Wai Fong Chua from the University of New South Wales, Australia.

Due to the overwhelming response received in the previous 3 IMAC, the Faculty of Economic and Business, Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia is organising IMAC IV on the 15-17 August 2007. The venue is Hotel Istana, Kuala Lumpur. The theme for the upcoming event is "Sustaining Competitiveness in Liberalized Economy - The Role of Accounting".
