GEMA Online Journal of Language Studies
is an internationally refereed scholarly online journal published by UKM Press. The aim of this journal is to open up a venue for language researchers and practitioners in the areas specified below to share  theories, their views, research results and classroom practices. The manuscripts sent for consideration of publication in GEMA are blind reviewed by at least two reviewers. The papers in the journal are published electronically on an on-going basis periodically. The authors have the copyright of the published online paper while UKM Press has the copyright of the selection and editorial matters of the hardcopy book form which is published on demand.  From 2010 onwards, the journal will publish 3 issues in a year: January, May and September.

The journal is indexed in SCOPUS as of 2009.

The journal is also indexed in DOAJ (Directory of Open Access Journals), the Linguist List, Malaysian Abstracting and Indexing System (MyAIS) and Open J-Gate at the following links respectively:

  WRITINGS    
 

Researchers and practictioners who have benefited from this journal are encouraged to write to the chief editor stating in what ways you have found these papers useful. For example, you have discussed them in postgraduate seminars or you have cited the papers in your own research paper.

GEMA invites articles between 3,500 to 5,000 words in length excluding references, tables and figures. Papers on theories and practices including those on discussions of and reflections on methods, techniques and ideas useful in the classroom are also welcome. The articles can be from any of the following areas:

  • Linguistics; cross-cultural linguistic research and theory, and applied linguistics. All branches of linguistics
    study on languages and cultures of Asia and the Pacific Rim area.

  • Teaching of English as Second/Foreign Language.

  • Literature; postcolonial literature from or on Asia and the Pacific Rim, Asian literature in English.

  • Teaching of other Languages, particularly the teaching of languages from the Southeast Asia region.

  • Language Learning and Technology.
