The Fuel Cell Institute successfully held the Fuel Cell Seminar and Exhibition 2009 on March 25-26, 2009 at the Palace of The Golden Horses Hotel, Mines Resort City, Sri Kembangan, Selangor. The seminar was officially opened by Y.B. Datuk Dr. Maximus Johnity Ongkili, the Minister of Science, Technology and Innovation whose opening speech was delivered by Y.B. Tuan Haji Fadillah bin Haji Yusof, the Deputy Minister of Science, Technology and Innovation. The purpose of this event was to officialy close the six IRPA-PR RMK-8 projects on fuel cells and hydrogen energy worthed RM 16 million from 2002-2007. The seminar and exhibition was also organized to showcase research and development programs on fuel cell technology and hydrogen energy at the Fuel Cell Institute to the Ministry of Science, Technology and Innovation and to the public. The six projects representing 5 established research groups, and 4 new research groups at the Institute exhibited their products at the exhibition which included the Serindit fuel cell motorcycle, the Lestari 1000 portable 1 kW fuel cell power generator, the Lestari 5000 portable 5 kW fuel cell power generator, polymer composite bipolar plates, low Pt MEA, auto-thermal reforming catalysts, solar hydrogen eco-house, dye photocatalysts, direct methanol fuel cells, biofuel cells and biohydrogen from POME. The Institute has published 49 journal papers, 95 international conference proceeding papers and 89 national conference proceeding papers. The Institute has also filed 19 patents and 1 trademark at MyIPO. Y.B. Tuan Haji Fadillah bin Haji Yusof, the Deputy Minister of Science, Technology and Innovation has congratuated the Institute for its success in the just concluded IRPA PR RMK-8 projects and directed local companies to take up and commercialize the fuel cell and hydrogen technology intellectual properties of the Institute. He also expressed his interest on the solar hydrogen eco-house which he hoped can be impemented in Sarawak and Sabah where there is no power grid connection. Later at a special exhibition of the R&D achievements of the Industry Cluster in the foyer of the Ministry of Science, Technology and Innovation on the 31st of March 2009, Y.B. Datuk Dr. Maximus Johnity Ongkili, the Minister of Science, Technology and Innovation congratulated the Institute on its achievement and expressed his interest to implement the Solar Hydrogen Eco-house in Sabah.
