In LASA 5, participants discuss ideas and issues that revolve on \u201cRegional Societal Integration: A Comparative Perspective \u2013 Latin America and Asia\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>LASA 5 also held the 4th Simon Bolivar Public Lecture Series, this time came with the title: &#8220;Latin Americans: who are we?&#8221; presented by His Excellency Alfredo Toro Hardy, Ambassador of the Embassy of the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela to Singapore.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>LASA 5 brought together Group Discussion that houses four sub-themes:<\/p>\n<ol>\n<li><strong>Centering Community Development<\/strong><br \/>\nCommunity Development takes into account the role by actors such as the state, community leaders, civil\u00a0society, and youth in the pursuit to develop a community. In an effort to foreground community development, one has to question the meaning of development for different communities. Issues associated with community empowerment, preservation, advancement of indigenous knowledge and sindigenous peoples and migration can be considered for discussion.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<ol start=\"2\">\n<li><strong>Rethinking Political and Economic Stratagem\u00a0<\/strong><br \/>\nOver the decades, nations in the two regions have evolved strategies and policies nationally and\u00a0collectively at their respective regional level, to deal with challenges from a world that is fast globalizing.\u00a0Issues of regionalism with particular reference to security, both traditional and non-traditional; approaches\u00a0to conflict resolution; challenges and opportunities to both regions emanating from an evolving\u00a0international order might be explored as potential research topics.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p><strong>\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n<ol start=\"3\">\n<li><strong>Exploring Sustainable Development Goals<\/strong><br \/>\nThe advancement in technology such as discovering alternative energy sources, increasing food production and advocating good health care, building livable cities can be associated with sustainable development for all. The pursuit of development must be balanced with the preservation of local heritage.\u00a0Comparative studies on sustainable development practices can be beneficial in ensuring the rights of\u00a0communities and individuals in fulfilling their potentials are within grasp.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p><strong>\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n<ol start=\"4\">\n<li><strong>Revisiting Historical Narratives, Cultures and Literary Traditions<\/strong><br \/>\nOne of the conduits to mutually engage the future between Latin America and Asia is through revisiting the\u00a0historical narratives, cultures and literary traditions of these two continents. It defines \u2018culture\u2019; one\u2019s\u00a0understanding of another\u2019s culture and what composites the different cultures. It should also bridge the\u00a0knowledge on Latin America and the Asian literary traditions via exploration on collection of writings that\u00a0draw on its reference, structure, mythology, and focal.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong>LASA 4<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>2014 (Mexico \u2013 CUI Itxhlahuaca) is a step forward in solidifying the path of scholarship between the regions. The theme of LASA 4 was connecting Latin America and Asia: Regionalism, Integration and Development. A continuation of deepening ties with partners in Latin American.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Sub- themes: LASA 4<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Centering Community Development : Local and regional Development<\/li>\n<li>Rethinking political and economic stratagem<\/li>\n<li>Exploring Sustainable Development and Biodiversity<\/li>\n<li>Revisiting Historical Narratives, Cultures and Literary Traditions<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>On October 10<sup>th <\/sup>2016, LASA5 was held at the Senate Room, level 5, Chancellery Building, UKM. This year\u2019s seminar received distinguished guests from Latin America region as well as CEO industry panel which includes Mr. Songsak Saicheua, the Director General for Department of American and South Pacific Affairs, Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Kingdom of Thailand; Vice Chancellor UKM Prof Datuk Dr Noor Azlan Ghazali; Rector ICUI Itxhlahuaca; H.E. Ambassador Alfredo Toro Hardy Embassy of the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela to Singapore;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Ambassadorial Talk<\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>H. E. Ambassador Carlos Felix Corona (Mexico)<\/li>\n<li>H.E.
