Oral Health Across Ages:
Healthy Smiles Start Young

The Toddler Oral Health Program, organized by the Dental Public Health Unit in collaboration with the Pediatric Dental Unit, Family Dental Health Department, was held on 23 July 2024 at Taska Permata UKM Health Campus. Aimed at promoting oral health and motivating children to care for their teeth, the program included dental examinations by pediatric registrars, a coloring contest, and educational sessions on dental care. This initiative seeks to instill good oral hygiene habits in young children.
From Curiosity to Career: Inspiring the Next Generation in Dentistry
The Detektif Gigi program, organized in collaboration with Muhsin Kids, UKM Faculty of Dentistry, CSI Experience, GIATMARA Petaling Jaya, and the School of Creative Childcare, aimed to introduce children to the fields of dentistry and forensics. Through interactive activities, the program sparked interest in STEM education, helping children explore potential careers in these important fields. This initiative aligns with community service by fostering early career awareness, empowering young minds, and encouraging active participation in educational activities.
Oral Health for All Generations
The Program Kesihatan Mulut Komuniti (Community Oral Health Program) is a key part of the Year 5 curriculum at UKM, providing dental students with real-world experience beyond the classroom. Students deliver oral health services to senior citizens at the Pusat Jagaan Mahmudah, Pusat Aktiviti Warga Emas (PAWE) UKM Bangi, and Persatuan Warga Emas Kg. Sg. Tua, Batu Caves. Activities include dental check-ups, oral hygiene education, and preventive care. This program enhances students' clinical skills while fostering empathy and understanding of the importance of community service in healthcare, preparing them to become compassionate dental professionals.

A Smile for Every Child, No Matter Their Roots

On July 18, 2024, the Dental Public Health unit, in collaboration with the HEJIM of the Faculty of Dentistry, UKM, organized The StaChild Project: Smiles Across Borders at Sanggar Belajar Sentul, Kg. Chubadak Hilir, Kuala Lumpur. The program aimed to foster care and responsibility among FGG UKM staff, while providing dental services to stateless children.

Supported by clinical staff and four students from Universitas Hasanuddin (UNHAS), activities included dental check-ups, a puppet show, coloring contests, and toothbrushing training.
On 17 October 2024, the Faculty of Dentistry, UKM, in collaboration with Feeding The Needy (FTN), organized Program Komuniti@UniMADANI at Jalan Tuanku Abdul Rahman, Kuala Lumpur. The team distributed 380 food packs to the community and identified 46 individuals in need of dentures for the program's next phase, which includes denture fabrication. A community clean-up was also conducted. This initiative aims to improve access to denture care, provide oral health education, and assess the quality of life for denture users.

Fostering Smiles Across Borders:
International Community Outreach Program

During semester break, students from the Faculty of Dentistry, UKM, joined the Unjani Mengabdi program organized by the Faculty of Dentistry, Universitas Jenderal Achmad Yani (FKG Unjani) in East Belitung, Indonesia, from September 11–15, 2024. The program provided an excellent platform for students to apply their skills through oral health education for schoolchildren and assisting in dental treatments, successfully serving 619 patients over two days.
